Learning disabilities Roadshow

People with learning disabilities can learn more about the services available to them at two special roadshows taking place over the next two weeks.

Worcestershire County Council has arranged the special events to explain all about the benefits of supported living. Visitors can find out about the right housing, individual budgets and support choices on offer, what benefits they are entitled to, how to get on the housing ladder and other vital information that helps them live independent lives.

Those already accessing the services will be on hand to talk about their experiences during service user presentations. Parents and carers are also invited to come along.

There will be roadshows for residents in both the north and south of the county. The northern event is at Kidderminster Town Hall on Tuesday, March 10, and is aimed at residents in the Wyre Forest, Redditch, Bromsgrove and Kidderminster.

The southern event is at Wallace House Community Centre, Oat Street, Evesham, on Wednesday, March 11, and is for residents in Worcester, Wychavon, Malvern and Evesham.

Both events start at midday and end at 5.30pm. Service user presentations take place at 1pm and 4.15pm. There will also be representatives from the Doing It Your Way Team providing information on Individual Budgets, Housing Providers, Support Providers, Carers Unit, the Benefits Agency, DIAL, Connexions and Supporting People, among others.

Shane Lennon, Supported Living Development Manager, said: There’s a lot of support available to those with learning disabilities that would enable them to live independently in their own homes. The roadshows have been designed to give out of as much information as possible to those that may be interested in finding out how they can be supported in their own home, what benefits they are entitled to, and how they can plan a more independent future”

The privilege of living independently is one that many of us take for granted. People with learning disabilities should have every opportunity to explore this basic right, and those that attend the roadshows can discover exactly what we’re doing to make this happen.”

Those wanting for information should contact Shane Lennon, Supported Living Development Manager, on 07921 309 223.
