Activities for May

Langford Park now have a new Activities Co-ordinator.  Trudie McCrae has a busy schedule for May and is detailed below. Trudie and green fingered residents have already started brightening things up with hanging baskets at the front of the building. If I’m not mistaken is that a new greenhouse? Careful, we’ll be competing with Bernaville Nurseries soon!!

HELP!!!  It’s the Devon County Show visit

Do you want to come and join us when we visit Devon County Show on the 20 and 21 May. We could use the extra assistance if you’re free. We need helpers for the day. There is so much going on with lots of interesting things to see that we are going to be heavily stretched as far as support is concerned. If you’re free and willing give Wendy a call on 01392 851473.

Advance notice of Assistive Technology day

Langford Park is running an open day to share information and hands on experience of Assistive technology on Friday 29 July.

Vision (UK) invite you to an 'In-Home' exhibition of assistive technology at Langford Park Nursing Home, Langford Road, Newton St Cyres, Exeter, EX5 5AG on Friday 30 July 2010, open to view between 10.00am till 4.00pm. Buffet lunch and refreshments will be served.

A limited number of companies have been invited to show our residents, their families and friends how their products can enhance lives. Generally speaking, technology is very under used in the Care industry by residents, yet it offers so much to everyone. Vision (UK) want to champion the use of assistive technology to help residents open up a whole new world of communication. We can run courses for residents to write texts, letters, make phone calls with webcams and use social media to keep in touch with family relations and friends. In addition, they can use it to watch TV, DVDs and 'stream' videos for entertainment or just surf the internet.

Some residents will not want it. However, some don't know what's available and how it can change lives. If handled properly residents could share breakfasts with their families over great distances or just show off the results of their latest activity. However you use computers they open up new possibilities.

Please be a part of our Homes future and join us for at least part of the day. Call Andy Grant on 077607 57538 now to reserve a place and lunch.

Advance notice of Summer Fete’ Saturday 30 July

On the 30 July, the day following the Assistive Technology day we want to run a summer Fate to raise money for the residents. So break out your old Aunt Sallys, your Tombolas or any unwanted gifts. Let start to organise a fun day for the whole community

Share your photographs

COMPETITION

We want to share the good times with you and the best way we can do that is to take photos and show them to you on the Monitor just inside the door in the lounge. We would love it if you would share your experiences with us when you loved one is making a visit home or out with you for the day. All shared photographs will be entered into a competition for the happiest person award voted for by you at the next residents and family meeting. Get snapping and win a box of chocolates! Did you realise, chocolates can help you lose weight especially if used with a calorie controlled diet. Just think of all the calories you’ll save when you exercise that will power and walk on by without picking one up!!!! There is no excuse for not bringing in a photo to share.

An old friend will be missed

I’m sorry to report that Ben the cat has passed away. Ben was ill for some time so it may have been a welcome release. He brought happiness and comfort to many of you in Langford. He will be missed by many not least his best cat friend Bill.
